The five-year Information Systems Strategic Plan will soon come to an end and is presently under review. In the past five years, the Force has implemented the recommendations of the plan with timely developments and continuous improvements to both soft and hardware.

Automation of documentary and administrative procedure has contributed significantly to freeing frontline officers from performing priority duties, hence improving the overall efficiency of the Force.

In view of the rapid development of information technology, a broad refreshment of desktop computers has been introduced to cope with various system developments. Nowadays, the configurations of all network terminals are up to the Force standard requirement and are capable of running any application available in the Force.

In the coming years, more effort will be placed on consolidating and enhancing existing systems. For desktop computer upgrading, cogitation will be given matching computer specifications with the need or function of the user. The need of replacing computers will be evaluated at the design stage of a system enhancement and, if necessary, funding for the enhancement of front-end hardware will be included in the project budget. Following such development, the capability and capacity of a desktop computer will therefore rely on the operational necessity of the user, irrespective of his/her rank.

Other than improving efficiency, the Information Systems Wing has always been mindful of the need to improve the working environment.

In the very near future, as part of the Report Room improvement project, LCD monitors will replace all sunken monitors at the Report Room counters and those of the key post holders in the back office of the Report Rooms. Adjustable keyboards will also be introduced to cater for share-users.
