A poll conducted by the Hong Kong University under its "Public Opinion Programme (POP)" late last month, puts the public satisfaction rate of the Force's performance at 71 per cent. This is seven per cent higher than the 64 per cent recorded in a similar poll this April.

The highest rate of 75 per cent was recorded in January this year.

The university has been conducting polls on the popularity of the People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison and the Hong Kong Police Force since the Handover in 1997. The polls show that the satisfaction rate of the Force has remained steady since the Handover. The polls also show that most of the dissatisfaction rates of the Force since the Handover were below 10 per cent, with the lowest of 5 per cent recorded this January.

The university has released the figures collected since September 1997 in a press release issued via its "HKU POP SITE" (http://hkupop.hku.hk). The figures are also available on this website.
