Sports Day with a difference

The Crime Wing Sports Day held at PSRC late last month was a sports meet with a difference - the Auxiliary Medical Service conducted health and blood glucose level checks, Department of Health delivered anti-smoking messages and St. John Ambulance provided first-aid services at the venue throughout the day to arouse officers' awareness of staying healthy.

Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Tang King-shing and Director of Crime & Security Tang Hau-sing were on hand to cheer on over 500 officers as they competed in 13 events.

After having his health check, D C&S kicked off the soccer game final and started off the promotion relay for five Crime Wing Bureau teams. Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Lo Yik-kee led the Crime Wing Headquarters and Support Group team in the relay, which was won by the Criminal Intelligence Bureau team headed by Acting Chief Superintendent Lo Mung-hung.

DCP OPS arrived at the soccer pitch as spectators held their breath to watch the penalty kicks to determine the winner after Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) and Organised Crime and Triad Bureau (OCTB) tied 1-1. Each side missed one shot and ended up in another draw after three penalty kicks. Amazingly, the match was undecided until the ninth "sudden death" kick when OCTB finally scored seven goals and claimed the title, plus hurrah from the stands.

DCP OPS later tooted the horn for the Tug-of-War final, which was the highlight of the day, with Narcotics Bureau (NB) gaining victory.

Following performances by the CCB and NB cheering teams, Mr Lo thanked the organising committee members and helpers for staging such an enjoyable and successful event.

The winners later received their prizes from directorate officers and Bureau Heads.
