The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, said on October 8 that he was very proud of the Hong Kong Police Force which is well trained and has a reputation for excellence in serving the community and maintaining law and order.

Speaking after reviewing a passing-out parade at the Police Training School, he pointed out that Hong Kong had experienced difficult times in recent years and people facing the economic downturn had taken their anger and dissatisfaction to the street, some even venting their anger at law enforcement officers.

"Even faced with this very difficult situation, Police officers have been unrelenting in their efforts to maintain social stability and harmony.

"With the ever-increasing economic activities in Hong Kong, the Force plays an important part in ensuring the safety of guests and visitors from all over the world, and ensuring the smooth flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic at boundary checkpoints.

"Police officers of all ranks have taken the challenges head-on and have lived up to their values and reputation in the policing of a number of major public order events and international conferences, and in maintaining law and order amid the various commercial activities, making Hong Kong one of the world's safest cities," the Chief Executive noted.

Mr Tsang believed that improvements to personnel training and work culture were the key to making today's Hong Kong Police Force a highly efficient and professional organisation. With the trend of continuous learning and the Force's core value of providing the best possible customer services, he said the Force would be able to meet the demands and expectations of society.

"I am fully confident that our well-educated, well-equipped, well-trained and highly-disciplined Police Force will establish a fine organisational culture commensurate with time and serve the community well with 'Pride and Care'," he said.

Ten probationary inspectors and 88 recruit constables passed out of the Police Training School after completing their highly demanding and professional training. While expressing appreciation to the instructors and staff of the training school for providing excellent training and support services, Mr Tsang expected they would bring out the best qualities and potential in many more recruits in the future.
