Woman Chief Inspector Katherine Cheung Tin-yee grabbed the silver in the Ladies' Individual Double Trap Category of the 29th South East Asian Shooting Championships held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, between September 25 and October 1.

WCIP Cheung, WCIP Lillian Shek Lai-ling, Woman Senior Inspector Elaine Ma Yee-ling and Woman Sergeant Wong Sze-wan were members of the Hong Kong SAR shooting team competing in the Clay target shooting events.

Notwithstanding hot weather and the very high standards of other shooters, the four officers showed immense determination and efforts in both trap and double trap events. After days of heated competition, WCIP Cheung's consistent performance earned her second place in the overall ranking and a silver medal.

Twelve teams, comprising hundreds of marksmen from South East Asian countries and cities, participated in this highly prestigious competition, which is held in the Region every year. Amongst the different categories, the events of Trap, Double Trap and Skeet shooting were some of the most competitive.

WCIP Cheung had this to say about the shooting championships: "This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to compete with some of the best shooters in the Region and in the world, and our efforts indeed have paid off. The team has trained hard with the support by the Police Shooting Club and the Hong Kong Shooting Association (HKSA)."

Chief Superintendent Fan Sik-ming, Chairman of the Police Shooting Club, is pleased that the team has been making steady progress. "The result shows our officers' potential and their hard work, and I have great confidence in their ability to do better," he noted.

Mr Cheng Shu-ming, Chairman of the Shooting Sub-Committee (Clay Target) of HKSA and Class 'A' Referee of the International Sport Shooting Federation, is equally pleased with the result. He disclosed that plans are underway to give police shooters more international exposure through similar competitions.
