Eighty-eight officers honoured for making good suggestions
In front of a packed auditorium, 88 officers were presented with a total of 75 Gold Award Certificates and 30 received Letters of Appreciation for their contributions to the Police Staff Suggestions Scheme. In addition, some of the Gold Award Certificate recipients also received cash prizes ranging from $500 to $1,000.
The prizes were presented at a ceremony held at Arsenal House Auditorium on October 29 by Director of Management Services Mike Dowie, Assistant Commissioner (Service Quality) Charles Wong Doon-yee, Hong Kong Island Regional Commander Tang Kam-moon, Assistant Commissioner (Support) Hung Hak-wai and the Police Civil Secretary Pang King-leung.
Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, Mr Dowie said that since its inception in 1994, the suggestion scheme had received wide and enthusiastic support. Over the past 10 years, more than 3,800 suggestions were received, including the 600 proposals received this year alone. Furthermore, since the launch of the electronic submission system in December 2004, there have been over 500 electronic submissions. "I am extremely impressed with our colleagues' innovation and hard work in making their submissions. They are all obviously committed to enhancing the Force as well as to continuous improvement," he noted.
Mr Dowie pointed out that the Police Staff Suggestions Committee had selected the award winners after careful scrutiny and deliberation and as such the winners were very deserving of recognition.
After the ceremony, Mr Charles Wong re-iterated that the Police Staff Suggestion Scheme Committee looked for ideas that were original and innovative when deciding the type of award to be given. At the post-event reception, which provided the opportunity for everyone to relax and chat about the awards, he commented that the ceremony was a great success due to the hard work of the organising committee, and that both the recipients and guests had thoroughly enjoyed it.
