Even without a sunny day to begin with, the smiling faces of officers from New Territories North Region told how much they were anticipating their first Regional Sports Day. They gathered early at PSRC on March 3, ready for events ranging from 7-a-side soccer, 3-on-3 basketball, badminton, rowing, athletics and tug-of-war, to bowling and fun game.

The idea of this sports meet was mooted after the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference, with the objective of promoting a healthy lifestyle and esprit de corps through recreational pursuits.

For the first title of all, officers went the whole hog to have their names, as well as those of their divisions, hung on the Hall of Fame. Ferocious battles took place at the basketball court, where the highly co-operative TMDIST edged out the individually talented YLDIST in the final. Thunderstorm left behind a muddy war field for the tug-of-war final between EU NTN and TPDIST, thrilling the hearts of all. NTN Traffic demonstrated a lot of skill and agility in clinching the badminton title.

The Sports Day climaxed during the presentation ceremony, where officers clamoured to support their elite representatives as they stepped onto the stage. EU NTN, with a strong performance in all games, clutched the minor trophy award presented by DRC NTN Ling Sin-ching.

The day concluded in a warm and joyful atmosphere as the orange gunners from TMDIST crowned in two individual events, and received the Region's first Major Unit Trophy award from NTN Regional Commander Cheung Siu-wah.
