Application for quarters

Question: "I'm Police Constable 'Keung Chai', and have been in the Force for over one year. I've just registered for marriage and hope to have an ideal new home. As I find my existing 300 sq. ft. private rental flat too small and the rentals too high, I intend to apply for police quarters. What are the options available to me and how much are the rents? What's the quickest and most convenient method for applying for a quarters unit?"

Answer: There are currently a number of good quality "H" grade quarters available throughout Hong Kong for eligible officers, some being brand new "Home Ownership Scheme Disciplined Services Quarters". These types of quarters, with an area of approximately 400 sq. ft., are well suited for newly married couples. The monthly rent of "H" grade quarters amounts to 5 to 7.5 per cent of an officer's basic salary or a maximum of $1,000, whichever is less. The quickest and most convenient method for applying for quarters is to take part in the forthcoming 'first-come-first-served' and 'Quarters Allocation' exercises, which will be held between late 2006 and early 2007. Details are available at the Police Quartering Division website on POINT.
