A total of 39 Junior Police Call (JPC) members and leaders, as well as 40 JPC School Clubs and District Councils were commended on March 31 for their outstanding contributions to organising and participating in community services, publicising fight crime messages and promoting the JPC Scheme.

At the Presentation Ceremony of the Hongkong Bank Foundation JPC Awards 2006, they received commendation trophies and cash awards from Commissioner Tang King-shing; Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Yam Tat-wing, and Head of Corporate Responsibility Asia Pacific Region of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC), Ms Teresa Au.

Speaking at the ceremony, Police Public Relations Branch Chief Superintendent, Mrs Choi Wong Fung-yee, praised the awardees for their contributions to JPC in the past year, adding that they had demonstrated their potential, team spirit and social responsibility during the selection process.

"The presentation ceremony represents a milestone in the development of the JPC Scheme. The Police have been organising this Award Scheme for 30 years since 1977 and it has been well received by the community. To date, more than 10,000 JPC members, leaders and members of JPC school clubs and JPC district councils have been commended," she said.

HSBC Head of Corporate Responsibility Asia Pacific, Ms Teresa Au also commended JPC members for their effort and enthusiasm. She said: "HSBC actively supports education projects that help students achieve their full potential. We are proud to have funded the JPC Awards Scheme since 1986, and to encourage students to care about the community, establish positive values and prepare themselves for future challenges by participating in JPC activities."

The Awards Scheme, organised by the Hong Kong Police with sponsorship from the Hongkong Bank Foundation for the past 21 years, has four categories: Best JPC Member, Best JPC Leader/Advanced Leader, Best JPC School Club and Best JPC District Council.

A selection panel comprising representatives from the Force, HSBC and non-governmental organisations selected winners from over 400 JPC members and 870 groups nominated.

Miss Chu Ngan-ling from Wan Chai was selected as the Best JPC Member and Mr Law Man-lung from Wong Tai Sin, the Best JPC Advanced Leader. Each received a commendation trophy and an $8,000 cash award.

The Best JPC School Club and the Best JPC District Council awards went to the Cognitio College (Kowloon) and Sham Shui Po JPC District Council respectively. The former received a $13,000 cash award and the latter was honoured with a $21,000 cash award.
