Dowman Road Race a big success

The 54th Dowman Road Race held on February 24, was a big success, drawing a turnout of 2,250 runners. This year saw some changes to the route of the race, which passed the scenic area outside the Chong Hing Water Sports Centre. As the route was also shortened to 11.4 km, each participant stood a better chance to set a new record for the annual event.

At 10 am on the day of the event, Director of Crime and Security Lee Ka-chiu started the race at Man Yi Road amid cheers from the runners and spectators.

For the men's race, Chief Inspector Andy Naylor, like before, ran at a lightning speed and finished the race first, setting a record of 36'37" for the new route. His longtime friendly rival, Police Constable Lai Hok-yan, came second.

For the ladies' race, Woman Police Constable Wong Siu-ping, one of the fastest female runners in Hong Kong, was the first to reach the finish line, setting a record at 42'50". Behind her was young runner WPC Dara Man Wai-shan from Cheung Sha Wan Division, who claimed the trophy for the Women's Open category.

Among the more experienced competitors, it was the energetic Sergeant Wun Yiu-ki from New Territories North Regional Headquarters, who won the Men's Master I title whilst Senior Police Constable Lee Tak-wai from Crime Wing Headquarters took the trophy for the Master II category. Winning the Men's Master III category was Station Sergeant Lo Wai-keung from PHQ.

In the category for retired colleagues, Mr Ng Wai-kwan passed the finish line first at 45'23". All those experienced runners showed amazing energy and stamina, setting an excellent example to other runners.

Commissioner Tang King-shing led a star-studded group of Police celebrities to the trophy presentation ceremony, and presented trophies to Kwai Tsing District Commander Ip Lau-chuen for being the fastest directorate officer in the race; to Tsuen Wan District for fielding the fastest ladies' team; to Crime Intelligence Bureau for fielding the fastest Formation team, and to Airport District for clinching the Specialist Training Formation title.

At the end of the event, the Chairman of the Police Athletic Club (PAC) thanked PAC volunteers and the Police Football Referee's Club for their valuable support of the race. Thanks also went to the staff of Police Tactical Unit Headquarters, Police College and Auxiliary Medical Service for their contributions to the success of the event.
