Western District (WDIST) recently launched a Fight Crime Publicity Week at the Western and Southern districts with the theme of "safeguarding your belongings at all times", the highlights of which also included prevention of street and telephone scams and abuse of drugs by youngsters.

The fight crime committees at the Southern and Central & Western districts have supported the publicity drive with financial assistance, and members of area committees and local communities with physical participation. To show their support, Mr Yip Wing-shing, Chairman of the Central & Western District Fight Crime Committee; Mr Ko Kam-cheung, Chairman of the Southern District Fight Crime Committee; Mr Chan Tak-chor, Chairman of the Central & Western District Council, and Ms Mar Yuet-har, Chairlady of the Southern District Council, officiated the launching ceremony at each district.

WDIST has enlisted the participation of senior citizens in the publicity drive to share the experience they have learned from anti-deception seminars with their peers as "Evergreen Fight Crime Ambassadors", underlining the co-operation between the public and police in fighting crime.

To disseminate fight crime messages in a broader sense, WDIST has also appointed 30 primary pupils as "Fight Crime Ambassadors" in a bid to rally people of different generations behind the police.

Following each launching ceremony, WDIST Commander Chiu Wai-yin led all participants to distribute crime prevention leaflets and souvenirs to the public at the busy spots of the two districts.
