After ranking 19th in the Standard Pistol event of the Kuwait Asian Shooting Championships 2007 in December last year, Acting Senior Superintendent (Auxiliary) Edgar Yang competed in the Olympic-designated Rapid Firing event in the Hong Kong Spring Shooting Championships 2008 and shot 551, with which he not only took the 1st place, but also broke the Minimum Qualifying Score set at 550, a minimum token to represent HKSAR to compete in Rapid Firing event of regional competitions.

Besides three China-trained national squad shooters, Edgar is the first local shooter to set such record since the change to the use of .22 long ammunition in 2004.

"After the Athens Olympic 2004, the International Shooting Sport Federation changed the use of ammunition for Rapid Firing event from .22 short to .22 long, making pistol handling more difficult in firing."

"It does kick more, compared with .22 short shooting. However, a shooter will overcome this once he possesses a solid skill in Standard Pistol shooting. I practised well with my Standard Pistol shooting skill, which helps improve my pistol handling once I pick up Rapid Firing. This will well benefit an engagement from one target to another in Rapid Firing that requires a shooter to engage with five targets in six series of eight seconds, six seconds and four seconds respectively," said Edgar.

In the Hong Kong Spring Open Rapid Firing competition, Sergeant Stephen Lee shot 540 and came second, while Station Sergeant Lau Tung-yuk shot 530 and came third.
