Perseverance under searing heat

As the Olympic Equestrian Event gathers momentum, officers are sweating it out at different posts to ensure that the Event proceeds smoothly and in a secure manner.

No matter where they work and what they do, their primary concern is the safety of both the athletes and spectators. They give their best to live up to the Force's motto of "We Serve with Pride and Care", and take their toil in their stride.

To all officers, being able to take part in an historic event in Hong Kong is a great motivation and a personal honour.

"No matter how difficult the job is, it's a privilege for me to work not only for the Force, but also for my country. All the officers I'm working with share my feelings, and they're doing their best to get their job done," said Senior Inspector Stephen Yu, a member of the Special Duties Team at the Beas River Venue.

The same can be said of the officers carrying out security screening checks at the Sha Tin Venue.

"We all know security is very important and we can't afford any bungling. We go to great lengths to ensure that nothing prohibited by the event organisers are brought into the venue. It's a very tedious job and sometimes brings inconvenience to the spectators. But they realise we've a job to do and offer full co-operation," said Sergeant Lo Wai-man.

"We check very carefully everything brought into the venue, and I hope the spectators would not think we've gone too far. It's all for the sake of security. Despite the searing heat of the summer, every officer works very conscientiously and takes pride of being part of a very important national event," said Police Constable Yau Siu-sang, who works side by side with SGT Lo.
