Shoebox gifts for Mainland children

Samaritan's Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organisation providing spiritual and physical aid to people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, diseases, and famines around the world. Since 1993 Samaritan's Purse has been running the "Christmas Child Project" by distributing shoeboxes filled with gifts, bringing love and hope to millions of needy children in 130 countries all over the world. This Christmas, the project aims to bring Christmas joy to children on the Mainland.

After coming to know the project, Auxiliary Police Deputy Commandant James Yiu immediately discussed it with Chief Superintendent (Auxiliary) Philip Fung, Convenor of the Auxiliary Police Volunteer Services Cadre (APVSC), and Superintendent (Auxiliary) James Lee, Deputy Convenor, to see how the Auxiliaries can support this meaningful event. Within just one week, APVSC managed to collect a decent amount of gifts, which were packed into nearly 100 shoeboxes.

On December 6, Mr Yiu personally led a team of APVSC members to deliver these Christmas gifts to Samaritan's Purse Collection Centre. At a simple ceremony, Director of Samaritan's Purse, Miss Maria Tam, and Chairman of Samaritan's Purse, Reverend Eric Tong, accepted the gifts. The gifts would be sent to children in Sichuan.

On the encouragement of Mr Yiu, APVSC sent 30 volunteers to help checking and wrapping gifts, and offer logistic support at the collection centre.

Mr Fung has thanked all volunteers for their efforts and hoped these simple shoebox gifts would fill children with joy and happiness in the love of God.

The Auxiliaries not only donate gifts but also offer volunteer services
