T HKI promotes cycling safety on Cheung Chau

Cheung Chau is one of the favourite resorts for sports and recreation in Hong Kong while cycling on the island is very popular among holidaymakers. Besides being a sport, cycling is also the most popular form of conveyance for Cheung Chau residents.

Therefore, Traffic Hong Kong Island (T HKI), in conjunction with the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol and the Cheung Chau Rural Committee, kicked off a "Cycling Safety Campaign" on the island on November 22, in the presence of over 150 local residents.

Officiating at the kick-off ceremony were Acting Senior Assistant Commissioner Wong Kai-chun and Acting Assistant Commissioner Leung Ka-keung of the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (Hong Kong & Islands); Cheung Chau Rural Committee Chairman Mr Yung Chi-ming; Vice-chairman, Mr Kwong Kwok-wai; Executive member, Ms Lee Kwai-chun; T HKI Senior Superintendent Wise Choy, and Cheung Chau Divisional Commander Mak Pui-yuen.

Speaking at the ceremony, SSP Choy reminded cyclists to obey traffic signs and be cautious on the road so as not to endanger themselves and other road users. He also thanked the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol and the Cheung Chau Rural Committee for supporting the "Cycling Safety Campaign".

Immediately after the launching ceremony, the officiating guests and road safety publicity volunteers headed for the Cheung Chau Ferry Pier and main streets to draw public attention to the campaign and distribute "Safe Cycling Lucky Packs".
