Tai Po District (TPDIST) teamed up with community organisations this summer to offer four projects to over 100 secondary school students in the district in a bid to help them cultivate a healthy lifestyle, and steer clear of drugs and crimes.

Pop Dance Course

TPDIST's Project "GEN-Y" and the North District Youth Outreaching Social Work Team of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong organised a pop dance course at Tai Po Junior Police Call Club House. Besides learning dance techniques, the students also had an opportunity to discuss with social workers the problems being encountered by young people, temptation of drugs and the consequences of committing crime.

Rugby Course

Project "GEN-Y" and Tai Po Rugby Football Club offered a summer rugby course for promoting rugby football and a healthy lifestyle. Despite the summer heat, the students showed a lot of enthusiasm for the course.

Boxing Course

Project "GEN-Y" also joined hands with the Breakthrough Boxing Club to offer a "Summer Boxing Course" for students to boost their self-confidence. The Breakthrough Boxing Club provided volunteer coaches while social workers of the Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service's Cheer Evergreen Centre counselled the students on the positive values.

3D Animation Design Training

The fourth project was a five-day "Summer 3D Animation Design Training Day Camp" jointly organised by Project "GEN-Y" and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. At the training camp, students not only learned production of 3D computer animation, but also put their computer knowledge into practice. The university campus provided an ideal learning environment for the students.

Seeing the students thoroughly enjoy the summer projects, TPDIST's Police Community Relations Office feels that the efforts it put in were worthwhile.
