applicants with 5 subjects, including English Language (Syllabus B before 2007), at Level 2 (or grade E before 2007) or above in the HKCEE, or equivalent, plus one year post-secondary full-time education, but do not have a pass in Chinese Language in the HKCEE may still apply. They will be arranged to attend, and must pass in one attempt, the Chinese Language Proficiency Test, which is held by the Force, before being offered appointment.
The purpose of Chinese Language Proficiency Test is to evaluate an applicant's proficiency in the use of written Chinese while performing auxiliary police duties. It consists of 2 parts - 'Use of Chinese' and 'Chinese Essay Writing'.
The 'Use of Chinese' requires an applicant to complete 30 questions in half an hour. The questions are based on three articles and included correction of words, restructuring of sentences, substitution of words by synonyms, filling in the blanks with conjunctions/phrases, etc.
The 'Chinese Essay Writing' requires an applicant to write an essay of about 300 words on a given topic within one hour.
