         About the Project

Background

Narcotics Bureau of Hong Kong Police (HKP), together with The Hong Kong Catholic Diocesan Schools Council (HKCDSC), carry out a 2-year large-scale anti-youth drug abuse education and publicity programme between early 2011 and late 2012. The HKCDSC is the largest school sponsoring body in Hong Kong. A total of more than 6 000 teachers and 93 000 students from about 130 primary and secondary schools will participate in this project.

Objectives

After completing the programme, participating teachers and youths aged between 9-18 will be able to:

  • state the common causes for taking drugs;
  • identify the types of drugs commonly taken and the harms done by various kinds of drugs;
  • be equipped to have the will power and skills to resist drugs;
  • know drugs related legislations;
  • establish healthy and positive life values; and
  • assist in the promotion of anti-drug education and promotion work.

Narcotics Bureau of Hong Kong Police
Narcotics Bureau of Hong Kong Police is responsible for collecting intelligence about the import, manufacture and distribution of dangerous drugs within the HKSAR and abroad. It takes direct enforcement action against criminals operating within the HKSAR and works closely with Mainland and overseas agencies to curtail the activities of Hong Kong-connected syndicates operating in other jurisdictions. The Bureau actively traces, freezes and confiscates the proceeds of drug trafficking in order to ensure that criminals benefit as little as possible from their activities.

The Hong Kong Catholic Diocesan Schools Council (HKCDSC)
The HKCDSC belongs to the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong (CDHK). It aims at linking member schools to jointly promote the spirit of evangelism and the educational goals of Catholicism. Its member schools include educational constitutions of all levels run by CDHK, and they are classified as the following three sections: Kindergarten Section, Primary Section and Secondary Section.

The educational objective of schools is to provide "Holistic education". Students will be guided to study the ethical values of Chinese culture and Catholicism, and to build up positive and healthy life value, so as to make their life more meaningful and valuable.
