Police Mentorship Programme
The Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) was first launched in March 2004 as a proactive recruitment strategy to inspire high calibre undergraduates from local universities to join the Force as probabtionary inspectors (PIs) immediately after their graduation.
The primary objectives of the Programme are to:
- Facilitate social and personal development of the Mentees;
- Inspire and motivate Mentees to pursue a career with the Force upon graduation from the universities;
- Establish liaison with the local university managements on employment related matters; and
- Enhance the overall competitiveness of the Force in graduate recruitment.
The PMP is currently open to undergraduates of the following local tertiary institutes:
- City University of Hong Kong
- Hong Kong Baptist University
- Hong Kong Shue Yan University
- Lingnan University
- The Chinese University of Hong Kong
- The Hong Kong Institute of Education
- The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
- The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
- The Open University of Hong Kong
- The University of Hong Kong
The PMP Mentors are a cadre of volunteer officers from SIP to SSP ranks who are graduates of the local universities. They are led by CSP CHUNG Hung-fung, Harry as Head Mentor. The Mentors act as a role model with each leading two to four Mentees from their respective parent universities and share with them knowledge, experience and challenges in the career of a Police Inspector.
Starting from PMP 2008/09, junior inspectorate officers, who have been PMP Mentees before joining the Force, are appointed as Assistant Mentors to strengthen the Programme.
Since its inception in 2004, 857 mentees have participated in the Programme. As at June 2011, 696 mentees have applied to join the Force and 72 of them are recruited as Inspectors and 9 as Police Constables.
