Homicide and robbery : Fanling

Police are investigating a homicide and robbery case in which a 76-year-old woman was found killed in Fanling this (January 5) morning.

Initial enquiries revealed that the elderly woman who lived alone in a two-storey stone hut in Ko Po Pak Chuen, Fanling, used to exercise in the fence off open space in front of the hut every morning.

She was last seen exercising on January 3 morning. Feeling suspicious, a neighbour informed her family living elsewhere.

The woman's 32-year-old grandson was afraid that his grandmother might have collapsed and made a report to Police.

Police officers deployed to the scene and the grandson found the gate of the fence was locked but not the main door.

The woman was found lying unconscious on the floor of a bedroom on the second floor with her legs tied by nylon ropes and hands by nylon ropes and adhesive tapes. Her mouth and eyes were covered by adhesive tapes.

She was certified dead at the scene and initial examinations revealed that she might have been dead for two days. Two lacerations were located on her forehead.

There were signs of ransacking in another bedroom in which drawers had been prised open. The kitchen was also found quite messy. Bloodstains were located in the first bedroom and on the staircase leading to the second floor.

An autopsy will be conducted tomorrow (January 6) to find out the cause of her death.

Investigations by the District Crime Squad, Tai Po are proceeding.
