There are no plans to cut the resources for the Special Duties Unit (SDU), a Police spokesman said today (February 17).

The spokesman was responding to media reports that there was a proposal to slash the allowances for SDU officers under the efficiency savings exercise.

He gave an assurance that the services of the SDU would in no way be affected, and regular reviews would be conducted to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the unit.

The spokesman went on to stress that the Hong Kong Police have the capability to deal with all terrorist threats.

"Members of the public can rest assured that the high level of anti-terrorist capability and readiness will always be maintained," he added.
