THE two main Police Clubs have played host to a feast of Chinese cultural activities. The Police Officers' Club in Causeway Bay and the Police Sports and Recreation Club in Mong Kok were transformed into traditional Chinese cultural villages for two days of entertainment, fun and demonstrations of Chinese arts and crafts. More than 10,000 visitors flocked to the clubs on March 9 and 10 to enjoy the Chinese Cultural Festival, jointly organised by the Police Personnel Services Branch and the Police Chinese Culture Club. A variety of exhibitions were staged by the Police Chinese Culture Club, the Police Handicraft Club, the Police Painting and Calligraphy Club, the Police Tea Art Club and the Police Wushu Club. Some of those taking part donned traditional Chinese costumes to add colour to the event, while a wide range of tasty culinary treats kept visitors' taste buds happy. The two-day event was designed to promote Chinese culture and healthy lifestyle within the Police Force, as well as to raise funds for the Police Children's Education Trust and the underprivileged children in the Mainland. More than $340,000 was raised through the sale of raffle tickets. Deputy Commissioner Management, Dick Lee Ming-kwai, who officiated at the festival dinner on March 9, said: "Through participating in the festival, it is hoped that all officers and their families can learn more about Chinese culture and experience the advantages of a healthy lifestyle which is conducive to a happy family life." |
