Of all the symbols associated with Easter - the egg - the symbol of fertility and new life, is the most identifiable. One of the traditional Easter games is the Egg Roll. The rules of an Easter Egg Roll are to see who can roll an egg - usually down a grassy hillside or slope - the furthest or who can complete the roll without breaking it. Perhaps the most famous egg rolling takes place on the White House Lawn in Washington. The White House Easter Egg Roll was started by President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1878. Every year, hundreds of children come with baskets filled with brightly decorated hard-boiled eggs and roll them down the famous South Lawn.
