Santa must surely find Hong Kong a challenge due to its almost complete lack of chimneys, but just imagine his reaction to Tokyo's planned X Seed 4000 structure!
This behemoth is a projected hyperstructure, or a building on a scale larger than ever before. X Seed is planned using currently available materials and technology. However, it's very unlikely we'll see it in time for Christmas.
The building cost of X Seed is estimated at US$500 billion. But if it is ever completed, what a wonderful accomplishment it would be for all technology lovers!
X Seed 4000, conceived by Tansei Construction, is envisioned as a four-kilometer-tall, six-kilometer-wide giant, rising 800 floors into the sky. It could possibly provide for around a million people, who would live, work and play within its massive frame.
X Seed 4000's supporters dream of placing it in Tokyo Bay, just outside Japan's capital. Their hope is to prove humanity can manage this marvelous feat without damaging the environment.
X Seed will be self sufficient, using solar power and re-cycled water.
Let's hope one day X Seed 4000 becomes a reality: watching the fireworks display on the 800th floor would be quite spectacular, don't you think so?
