In 2017, the overall number of crimes in Hong Kong dropped by 7.6% when compared with 2016 and was the lowest since 1975. However, the prevailing types of deception should not be taken lightly. The more common types of deception include ‘Telephone Deception’, ‘Online Romance Scam’, ‘Email Scam’, ‘Investment Fraud’and ‘Financial Intermediaries Fraud’. To let you understand the latest modus operandi of these fraud cases, the Police have produced relevant videos for your reference. Please take a look!

Telephone Deception

Fraudsters pretended to be couriers, bank staff or law enforcement agents and asked the victims to pay or transfer money to designated accounts using various pretexts, such as to retrieve a parcel, and the victim being wanted for having committed an offence etc.



Online Romance Scam

A victim fell prey to someone she merely came across on the Internet and was cheated out of her lifetime savings of $3 million!
