The Road Safety Council (RSC) celebrated its 40th anniversary with special ceremony at the Discovery Park Shopping Centre in Tsuen Wan on November 3. Officiated at the ceremony were the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Prof Cheung Bing-leung, Deputy Commissioner (Operations) and RSC Chairman, Mr Lo Wai-chung, and RSC Ambassadors, Ms Nancy Sit and Ms Kandy Wong.

Prof Cheung pointed out the RSC was established in 1973 to coordinate road safety publicity. This task includes liaison with government departments, organisation of educational and promotional activities, legislation review and law enforcement.

A two-day exhibition of historical posters and pictures traced the contributions the RSC made in the past 40 years. In addition, there was a display of new and old police motorcycles, with the oldest one dating back to the 1940s.

Ms Sit and Ms Wong treated the visitors to a new version of the road safety theme song for the first time, while other celebrities performed a drama promoting safety of elderly pedestrians and a magic show disseminating road safety messages.
