Traffic Kowloon East and Road Safety Patrol Kowloon East Region held the "Sau Mau Ping Road Safety Town Open Day cum Smart Senior Scheme Award Presentation" on December 28 to promote road safety to pedestrians and cyclists, particularly the elderly, and to present awards to elderly volunteers.

In his opening speech, Kowloon East Regional Commander Mike Cartwright thanked all stakeholders, including Road Safety Patrol and community centres, for mobilising enthusiastic elders in Kowloon East to assist in disseminating road safety messages to their peers.  The "Smart Seniors Scheme" Award was a tribute to the elderly volunteers who took part in the campaign, which led to a very good road safety record, he added.

Besides brass band presentation and elderly health dance, other programmes of the day included performance by the Police Pop Music Club and game booths for kids. The miniature road environment in the road safety town and a breath test demonstration helped make the visitors more aware of road safety.
