Since 2001, the Force has been implementing Knowledge Management (KM) to enhance organisational capability and learning. In 2013, our efforts paid off as the Force won the Hong Kong Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) Award, the Asian MAKE Award and the Global (Independent Operating Unit) MAKE Award. These well recognised and independently assessed awards underscores the progress the Force has made in its KM practices.

Meanwhile, the Formation KM Champions Scheme is well underway. In April last year, Police College piloted the scheme in Kowloon City District (KCDIST), Tsuen Wan District (TWDIST) and Lantau (LTDIST) to encourage frontline formations to capture and share the valuable knowledge and experience of their officers.

In the past nine months, each district developed its own KM programmes to cater for its special needs. For example, KCDIST shares knowledge through "City Snapshot" and lunchtime gatherings; TWDIST organises periodic events such as Knowledge Café, "See Foo" Collection Competition and Mini Video Projects; whilst LTDIST adopts a bottom-up approach to collect views for knowledge sharing, holds regular group meetings to identify topics for frontline officers and finally consolidates and uploads the topics for sharing.

Formations wanting to know more about or join the pilot scheme are welcome to contact the Research Centre of the Specialised Services Training Centre of Police College via either Superintendent Mark Mak (2860-5770; email: sp-rc@police.gov.hk) or Senior KM Officer Jason Leung (2860-2399; email: skmo-rds-rc@police.gov.hk).
