Regional Crime Prevention Office of Kowloon East (KE) Region has carried out an operation, codenamed "Outlighter", to step up publicity on the modus operandi of phone scam for elders and their families.

 

The operation ran in two stages. In the first stage, the winning entries to the Crime Prevention Leaflet and Poster Design Competitions 2013 were displayed in major shopping malls in KE from April 15 to 17, supplemented by screening of video clips on phone scams. Railway District officers also assisted by distributing crime prevention flyers at MTR stations near the malls.

 

In the second stage on April 27, the chairmen of the district fight crime committees (DFCC) in KE teamed up with officers and volunteers in handing out flyers and souvenirs on prevention of phone scam to patrons in 30 restaurants in KE.  

 

Operation "Outlighter" has attained its goals and the DFCC chairmen have pledged to support more similar publicity drives.
