Kowloon East (KE) Region spares no efforts in combatting phone scams. The Regional Crime Prevention Office of KE (RCPO KE) has also mapped out strategies to tackle phone scams, by which a major one is to engage the community in preventing such scams. RCPO KE has arranged for its Teens Ambassadors to call at money exchange shops in KE and inform the staff members of swindlers' modus operandi.

This strategy has proved to be successful. In the past few months, eight phone scams were foiled when the staff members of three money exchange shops made enquiries after noticing the flurried looks of the victims. At the appointment ceremony for the KE "Project Teens" held in Kwun Tong Community Centre on May 10, KE Senior Superintendent Eugene Yue presented letters of appreciation to the vigilant staff members.

At the appointment ceremony, 60 Teens Ambassadors, including five Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) teenagers, were presented with letters of appointment. The Teen Ambassadors undertook to pass on crime prevention messages to the public.
