As Yuen Long is home to many Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC), Yuen Long District (YLDIST) provides training in ethnic minorities languages for frontline officers after their working hours from time to time.

The latest training was a Nepali course, which, besides offering an elementary level of proficiency, also covered living habits, cultures and customs, as well as the NEC’s general living situation in Hong Kong. The main objective of the training was to brush up the trainees’ ability to communicate with the NEC.

The training concluded on June 23 when District Commander Tsang Cheung-tat presented certificates to the trainees and encouraged them to continue equipping themselves. The officers found that the training course would make them more confident in handling cases involving NEC.

After their training, the officers will be more capable of handling cases involving NEC
