Sha Tin District (STDIST) has formed a Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) Engagement Focus Group to drive forward a NEC engagement project on a District basis. The key elements of the project include language courses and religious education for officers, school liaison, and building relationship with the local NEC community.

As part of the initiative for building school liaison and relationship with the local NEC community, the STDIST NEC Engagement Focus Group, headed by Chief Inspector Angus Scott, visited the Renaissance College and the Sha Tin College on June 3 and 20 respectively.  The group members talked to students aged 12 and 17 on three serious and topical issues, namely online deception, bullying, and inappropriate behaviour.  The talks adopted an interactive approach with role-play and a question-and-answer session. The emphasis was on the students developing a plan should they either witness or fall preys to the above-mentioned three topics.

The feedback and support from the schools were extremely positive and the students and staff capitalised on the opportunity to approach the officers individually after the sessions on personal issues. As a result of the initial success of the school visits, a deputy head principal requested that every year student groups be given similar talks at the beginning of each academic term.
The school visits and talks are well received by both students and school principals
