Two important events of the Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) took place at Police Headquarters on July 9 - closing ceremony of the 10th PMP, marking the successful conclusion of the PMP 2013-14, and formal launch of the PMP Alumni (PMPA). Director of Personnel and Training Chau Kwok-leung officiated at this important milestone of the PMP in the presence of over 120 mentors, mentees and ex-mentees.

At the closing ceremony of the PMP 2013-14, the mentees from 10 participating local universities or tertiary institutes staged a presentation on the PMP activities they took part over the year, such as summer job attachment, Summer Day Camp, visits to Police College, New Territories North (NTN) Regional Command and Control Centre, Emergency Unit NTN, Traffic NTN and Marine Region Headquarters. Some mentees had also helped out as Recruitment Ambassadors at the Force's recruitment campaigns.

All the mentees agreed that the PMP had enriched their knowledge of police work and inspired them to pursue a police career after their graduation.  They also took the opportunity to express their heartfelt gratitude to their mentors for valuable advice, guidance and encouragement.

Since its launch in 2004, the PMP has attracted more than 1 400 mentees. Among them, 213 have joined the Force upon graduation. At the launch of the PMPA to strengthen the liaison among ex-mentees, mentors and the Force, the PMPA Executive Committee members and the Chapter Coordinators of universities were appointed.

Speaking at the launch, the Chairperson of the PMPA Executive Committee, Senior Superintendent Mak Chin-ho, described the PMP as a proactive and effective recruitment strategy, providing a platform not only for mentees to understand more about the Force, but also for mentors and mentees to share experiences. As mentors and mentees possess different personal and academic backgrounds as well as experiences, the friendship between mentors and mentees or amongst the mentees themselves, is unique and valuable.  The PMPA is therefore established as a sustainable and interactive platform for fostering the ties between the alumni and the Force. Hopefully alumni members would continue to share with and learn from one another through various activities.

In response to the Chairperson's appeal, a majority of the mentees registered to join PMPA that day. The PMPA website is available on the Police Public Page.  PMP ex-mentees interested in joining the PMPA may download the application form from the website.
