More than 230 mentors and mentees of the Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) participated in the PMP Summer Day at Police College on August 9.

Organised by Recruitment Division with the assistance of three PMP Job Attachment mentees, the event comprised a variety of tailor-made activities for boosting the mentees' communication skills, team spirit and leadership potential. It also provided an opportunity for them to enhance self-confidence and police knowledge. The programme of the day included visit to Tactics Training Complex, demonstration of physical exercise by Physical Training Instructors, team building exercises and experience-sharing sessions.

Acting Director of Personnel and Training, Mrs Ng Tsui Fung-ying, the Head Mentor, Police College Director Paul Lau and Acting Chief Superintendent Yau Kwok-yui from Human Resources Branch attended the event in the afternoon to show their support.

Mr Lau said, "PMP is a proactive recruitment strategy to attract high calibre university students to join the Force. Through various PMP activities, mentors share their valuable knowledge and experiences with mentees, and inspire them to join the Force upon graduation. In the 10 years after establishment of PMP, a total of 213 mentees have joined the Force.  Three of them have been promoted to Chief Inspector and two more will be promoted this year as well."

Mr Lau encouraged the mentees to actively participate in PMP and work out their own plans for future.  He also took the opportunity to thank the mentors for supporting and guiding the mentees.

In an experience-sharing session, four ex-mentees, including Chief Inspector Leung Oi-lam, who is a mentor, and two Probationary Inspectors (PI), spoke of the challenges they had encountered in their police careers, and encouraged the mentees to equip themselves for joining the Force.

For the mentees, the Summer Day was well organised and inspiring, giving them a better picture of the roles and work of the Force.

Mentees aspiring to join the Force are expected to apply for PI post on the Recruitment Day cum PI Express scheduled for November. For junior police officers, including auxiliaries, a seminar for those with potential for PI will be held on September 24. Watch out for more information on Force Noticeboard.
