Impartiality, integrity, political neutrality, professionalism and proper exercise of power are the keys to maintaining public trust in and respect for the Force, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Disciplined Services Salaries and Conditions of Service, Ms Teresa Ko, said when she inspected a passing-out parade at Police College on November 15.

She told the 50 Probationary Inspectors and 222 Recruit Police Constables on parade, "It is up to each and every one of you to maintain a high standard, live up to the vision of the Force, uphold its good reputation and image, work with your colleagues as a team and serve the public with pride and care."

Ms Ko went on to say that the families and friends of the graduates as well as members of the public are proud of their determination to uphold law and order and ensure Hong Kong remains one of the safest cities in the world.

She expressed special thanks to the families for supporting the graduates' choice of joining the Force. "Recently, the challenges and pressure on the Police, especially the frontline Police, are immense. The understanding of your families and friends for your choice is very important," she told the officers.

Ms Ko reminded the graduates that they, in face of the increasing complexity of society and the diverse aspirations of citizens, would face a lot of challenges at work and have to pursue lifelong learning. "Don't let the public down for their trust in you," she advised the officers.
