A new series of training programmes under Project HIMALAYA has commenced in November. On November 12, Yuen Long District (YLDIST) held a session to welcome 30 newly recruited project members, where Deputy District Commander Kerry Carew presented certificates to more than 30 members who completed a 26-week training between May and November this year. The trainees have made an obvious progress in discipline, confidence, police knowledge and Chinese language proficiency.

YLDIST has been running Project HIMALAYA since last year to help Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) Junior Police Call (JPC) members aspiring to joining the Force. The project offers the JPC members weekly class for brushing up their proficiency in Chinese language and a mentorship programme for boosting their confidence and competitiveness in joining the Force.

YLDIST also made arrangements for the NEC to visit police units and participate in crime prevention activities and road safety campaigns, helping them broaden their horizons and acquaint themselves with police work.

Encouraged by the success of the project, YLDIST commenced a series of recruitment drive in September, the programmes of which included organising seminars for NEC schools, producing a promotional video clip and publishing articles on Project HIMALAYA in newspaper for the Pakistani community.
