Among the graduates passing out from Police College on November 15 is a former member of the Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) "Project Gemstone", Police Constable (PC) Razi Zareena Tariq. With her father being a Pakistani and mother, a Hongkonger, PC Razi wishes to act as a "bridge" linking the Force, the public and the Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC).

PC Razi, aged 20, passed out with over 100 Recruit Police Constables (RPC). On completion of Secondary Six, she studied a Yi Jin Diploma Programme and later joined "Project Gemstone" as a member, helping organise activities to promote integration of the NECs into the community. With a passion for police work, she finally made it to Police College as a RPC.

Posted to Hung Hom Division, PC Razi helps promote the Islamic culture to her fellow officers after work. She also commits herself to promoting racial harmony and the NEC community's understanding of the Force.

YTDIST rolled out "Project Gemstone" in February last year to help NEC Junior Police Call members brush up their knowledge of the Chinese language and the Force as well as assist and encourage them to join the Force.
