The Force participated in the Education and Careers Expo at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from February 5 to 8 to publicise the multi-faceted police work and provide the latest information on police recruitment.

During the four-day Expo, officers from specialist units and secondary duty cadres introduced their work and displayed their accoutrements at the police booth, attracting large crowds of visitors. The units and cadres included Weapons Training Division, Police Dog Unit, Marine Small Boat Unit, Emergency Unit, Traffic Formation, Airport Security Unit, Counter Terrorism Response Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau, Crime Prevention Bureau, Identification Bureau, Force Search Unit, Police Negotiation Cadre, Force Abseiling Cadre and Narcotics Bureau.

In addition to participating in major recruitment events, the Force also proactively engages different stakeholders for enhancing communication and seeking more co-operation opportunities. Therefore, Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Lau Chi-wai and the Head Mentor of the Police Mentorship Programme, Mr Paul Lau, co-hosted a luncheon gathering on February 11 for the student affairs staff of 10 universities and tertiary institutions as well as Police Mentors. The hosts and guests exchanged ideas and explored for more opportunities for co-operation.

The Force expects to attain the recruitment target of 1 340 police officers by the end of the 2014/15 financial year. In 2015/16, the recruitment target is 1 510 officers, comprising 190 probationary inspectors and 1 320 recruit police constables. Those meeting the entry requirements and aspiring to serve society are welcome.

The Force accepts recruitment applications throughout the year. The next Recruitment Day has been scheduled for May. More information will be available at the Force Recruitment Website: www.police.gov.hk/recruitment.
