Yuen Long District (YLDIST) hosted a second inter-departmental liaison meeting with Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) leaders on March 17 to discuss and address local issues of NEC concerns.

Over 30 representatives from the NEC community, non-governmental organisations and government departments attended the meeting, which was chaired by District Commander Tsang Cheung-tat. The departments included Home Affairs Department, Lands Department, Immigration Department, Labour Department, Social Welfare Department, Housing Department and ICAC. The representatives were updated on the crime situation related to the NEC and the progress of some NEC initiatives being undertaken by YLDIST. The briefing was followed by a discussion on local NEC issues.

At the meeting, NEC leaders expressed their gratitude to YLDIST and other government departments for taking follow-up actions on the suggestions they made at the last meeting, adding that they were delighted that progress had been made for some of the suggestions. They also appreciated YLDIST’s efforts to engage the NEC community, and pledged full support for the inter-departmental meeting, which, they said, offered an effective platform to all the stakeholders concerned to maintain long-term communication and co-operation.
