Director of Management Services Chiu Wai-yin led a Force delegation to attend the 14th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Women Police Officers Meeting held in Heyuan, Guangdong Province, between March 11 and 13. The theme of the meeting was "Internet and Policing Work".

The Political Commissar of the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Traffic Management Bureau, Ms Chen Xiaojian, and the Deputy Director of Policia Judiciaria of Macao, Ms Tou Sok-sam, headed the other two delegations.

Science and technology are fast changing and so is development of the Internet, bringing much convenience to daily life, but at the same time posing challenges for police work.  In 2014, the Force received a total of 6 778 reports of technology crime, which represented an increase of more than 30 per cent over 2013 and a ten-time surge in ten years.

The meeting provided a precious opportunity for women officers from the three jurisdictions to look closely into the application of the Internet and technology in police work in the areas of service provision, publicity and crime fighting. The meeting equipped the delegates better for taking on the challenges and maximising the opportunities brought by technology.
