Central District (CDIST) Commander Lam Chun-ming has presented commendation letters, issued by former Regional Commander Hong Kong Island Li Kin-fai, to four auxiliary police officers from CDIST for arresting a chain burglary suspect.

The officers are Acting Inspector (A) (IP (A)) Hung Hoi-po, Sergeant (A) (SGT (A)) Lam Ming-kei, and Police Constables (A) (PC (A)) Lin Yat-man and Pang Siu-chuen. They were in response to a burglary alarm in Central on October 15 last year when they spotted a man acting suspiciously at the scene. On seeing the officers, the man ran off and pulled out a long screwdriver.

SGT (A) Lam and PC (A) Lin immediately chased after the man, eventually stopping and subduing the man with the assistance of Acting IP (A) Hung, PC (A) Pang and other regular police officers.

The officers found breaking equipment and about $65,000 in cash, stolen from five nearby restaurants, in the man's rucksack. Crime officers later confirmed that the suspect was also involved in two other burglaries in North Point.
