Supporting the Anti-Phone and Online Deception Publicity Campaign launched by Eastern District (EDIST) in March this year, two Eastern District Fight Crime Committee members, Mr Tsang Heung-kwan and Mr Wong Chiu-yin, the Assistant Manager of Creative Property Services Consultants, Mr Chan Cheuk-kit, and the President of the Siu Sai Wan Residents Association, Mr Chan Tat-man, joined EDIST Commander Graham Mitchelmore, and EDIST Police Community Relations Officer, Chief Inspector (CIP) Ku Siu-fai, in mounting an anti-telephone deception and anti-shop theft drive in Siu Sai Wan Estate, Chai Wan on October 28.

During the publicity drive, the Officer-in-Charge of the Patrol Sub-unit 4 of Chai Wan Divisional Ng Ka-lun briefed on the trend of phone deception and shop theft, and elaborated on police action in preventing such crimes. After the briefing, four probationary inspectors from Police College, Senior Police Call and Junior Police Call members and Non-ethnic Chinese ambassadors accompanied all the guests in distributing fliers to shops and patrons in malls and markets.

In another effort, the Police Community Relations Office of EDIST held an anti-crime seminar for 40 exchange students from the Mainland in Shue Yan University on October 20 when CIP Ku and Police Constable Leung Ho-yu introduced the trend of crimes, including theft, phone scam and cyber crime. The seminar also aimed at helping them adapt to the life in Hong Kong with talks on the Immigration Ordinance, road safety and Smoking Ordinance.
