In accordance with the Force Media Strategy, a Force Media Liaison (FML) Cadre was formally established as a secondary duty team on December 1. The FML Cadre comprises the Media Liaison Team (MLT) and Regional Media Liaison Teams (RMLTs).

The Officer-in-charge of the FML Cadre Kwan Chui-ching said the major roles of the FML Cadre are to facilitate media activities on the ground and handle issues arising from press activities without interrupting frontline officers' operational roles. Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) will conduct recruitment for FML Cadre in January every year. The successful candidates will receive comprehensive training, including ecology of media and mediation and communication skills.

The MLT was established for the World Trade Organization's Ministerial Conference in Hong Kong in 2005. The members at that time mainly came from PPRB. Later, the team was expanded and RMLT was established in each region. Since 2012, the RMLTs had been deployed in many public events.

Officer-in-charge of the Regional Investigation Unit Support Team Crime Kowloon West Headquarters Chan Chung-yan had joined the RMLT for four years, having worked in the large-scale public events that happened last year. She said she had met a lot of reporters everyday and developed a close working relationship with them. She hopes she would continue working in the FML Cadre and play the role of a "bridge" between the Force and the media.
