Officers had busy itineraries in Australia in October, assisting with and attending training as well as paying study visits.

With the arrangements made by Police College, Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Tang Ping-keung and Superintendent (SP) Ng Chi-chung attended a two-week Graduate Diploma in Executive Leadership programme at the Australian Institute of Police Management (AIPM) in Manly, Sydney, as a Visiting Fellow (VF) and a participant respectively.

Attending the programme were 31 officers from Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong. In the programme, ACP Tang acted as a VF alongside representatives from other Australian Police jurisdictions. He played the roles of a Syndicate Director responsible for assessing the participants' performances in classroom, syndicates and written assignments.

ACP Tang and SP Ng also met SP Foo Yat-ting, who was being seconded to the AIPM for one year as well as a five-member Force delegation led by Chief Inspector (CIP) Lai Chin-keung, which was on an official visit to the New South Wales Police in Sydney. After the programme, SP Ng spent one week on attachment to the Australian Federal Police Headquarters in Canberra.

SP Foo participated in the Graduate Diploma programme as an observer. In the AIPM, she plays the roles of a Syndicate Director and assists with other AIPM courses.

CIP Lai was leading a five-member delegation from Hong Kong Island Region and New Territories South Region on an official visit to the operational units of the New South Wales Police, including State Planning Unit, Public Order and Anti-riot Squad, Explosive Disposal & Rescue Unit, Mounted Police Unit, Police Aviation Support Unit and Tactical Operation Unit.

Officers attend development training

In the same month, Police College also arranged Detective Sergeant (DSGT) Lu Keung from Regional Intelligence Unit Kowloon West and SGT Cheung Wai-hong from Emergency Unit Hong Kong Island to attend development training, "Leadership in Action" (LiA) course organised by the Queensland Police Service Academy and Public Safety and Business Agency in Brisbane. In the LiA course, CIP David Poon from Mong Kok District played the roles of a VF, Course Performance Assessor and Guest Speaker.

The LiA course was designed primarily for the experienced Queensland Senior Sergeants. It equipped trainees with conceptual management strategies, staffing skills, budget management, community engagement through social media, evidence-based research and media engagement skills. The trainees also visited the licensed premises in the Gold Coast to appreciate the challenges posed by tourism and entertainment business to policing work.
