About 7 000 visitors attended the Police College Open Day held on its Aberdeen Campus on January 10 to mark its 10th anniversary.

Director of Police College Paul Lau said the event is the first of its nature since the Police College was established in 2006, "In addition to celebrating the College's anniversary, we hope to engage the community, enhance public understanding of Police work and promote the Force's volunteer work and healthy lifestyles to the community."

Over 1 300 members of the public from different social welfare organisations were invited to attend dress rehearsals of Force performances on January 9, including the elderly, mentally incapacitated and disabled, he added.

The Open Day offered a variety of performances and demonstrations staged by the Special Duties Unit (popularly known as the "Flying Tigers"), Force Escort Group, Police Dog Unit and Police Band.

There were a display of Police special vehicles and some 50 exhibition and game booths with different themes mounted by Police units and arts and sports clubs. Other major attractions included laser gun shooting, abseiling games and wall climbing.

A display booth was set up on the history and transformation of Police College to give visitors a better understanding of Police training and work. In the past 10 years, the College has upgraded training programmes to cater for the rising needs of police work.
