To strengthen frontline officers' awareness of, and skills to handle, suicide, Kwai Tsing District (KWTDIST) invited a senior crisis counsellor and a social worker from the Samaritan Befrienders Hong Kong (SBHK) to conduct a seminar with the family of a suicide for about 60 KWTDIST frontline officers on February 19. The seminar was the first one of its nature the SBHK offered to the Force.

Besides elaborating on the mental conditions of suicidal persons and their immediate family members, the speakers also helped officers master the related communication and handling skills, listed the dos and don'ts and offered useful advice.

Meanwhile in handling suicide cases, KWTDIST officers will provide the immediate family members of a suicide with an information package of the SBHK, which contains useful information on counseling service and after-death arrangements. This proactive step aims at offering a comprehensive assistance to the family members and helping them get through their difficult time.
