Operations Wing held a seminar on management of major incidents and events at Police Headquarters on February 25 as part of the Incident Command Course Refresher Training Programme.

At the seminar, a former Commander of Metropolitan Police Service in London, Mr Robert Broadhurst, shared his experience and knowledge of coping with major incidents and events in the UK. With experience spanning 20 years, he illustrated the challenges operational commanders had faced during numerous major incidents and events in the UK, including the July 7, 2007 explosions in the London transportation system and the impact on the preparation and planning for the 2012 London Olympics. He also spoke of the difficulties he had come across and the lessons learned when he was one of the overall commanders responsible for the police response following the bomb attacks.

During his visit to the Force, Mr Broadhurst also attended an experience-sharing session at Police Tactical Unit Headquarters on March 23 and gave a Management Development Programme (MDP) presentation on the following day on the difficulties the Metropolitan Police Service experienced during the 2009 G20 London Summit and the widespread civil disturbances in London in August 2011. Among the participants at the MDP were Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Wong Chi-hung and Deputy Commissioner (Management) Chau Kwok-leung.
