Following the success of hosting the seminar of the International Pearl Fishers Action Learning Group (IALG) for the first time last year, Police College hosted the seminar again during the week between March 6 and 12.

This year, Police College played host to 19 senior police leaders and three programme management team members, from law enforcement agencies in Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Columbia, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, Holland, Norway, Singapore, Romania, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as the International Criminal Police Organization and the European Police Office. Deputy Director of Police College Samson Cho represented the Force at the seminar on programme management issues.

In the seminar, the participants demonstrated forward-looking and innovative thinking in examining their assignments. They took part in intensive debates conducted by guest speakers and distinguished academics from different regions. They also visited the Shengzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau and shared experiences of policing and counter-terrorism.

The IALG Seminar in Hong Kong laid a solid foundation for the participants to complete their reports and present findings to the annual Pearls in Policing (Pearls) Conference in Australia in June.

IALG is widely recognised as a renowned and the only existing executive law enforcement leadership programme in the world. It aims to gather wisdom by offering a seminar and reporting the relevant findings and suggestions to the Pearls Conference. The Pearls Conference is attended by top-level executives of law enforcement agencies at Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner level around the world to find solutions to emerging issues and the challenges for policing in future.
