Sha Tin District (STDIST) and the Security Department of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) jointly organised a table-top exercise at Sha Tin Race Course on June 24 to test the ability of the related personnel in responding to emergency situations.

The exercise simulated two scenarios about a bomb threat and an emergency evacuation, which involved officers from STDIST, Police Tactical Unit A, Emergency Unit of New Territories South (NTS), Traffic NTS and Railway District together with security officers and representatives of other internal departments of the HKJC. Officers from Operations Wing of both NTS and Hong Kong Island took part as observers.

The Force and the HKJC's respective procedures for handling such incidents were tested in the exercise. Commander of Sha Tin Division Stephen Baker said it was a very worthwhile learning experience while Emergency Planning and Resilience Manager of the HKJC Mr Daniel Chan said the exercise was useful in strengthening the links of both parties in dealing with emergency incidents.
