Intellectual 40m and REAP Series

The Police College held two knowledge management (KM) sessions of Intellectual 40m Series and Research Enhanced Applied Policing (REAP) Series in early August.

Associate Professor and Associate Head of the Department of Journalism & Communication at Hong Kong Shue Yan University Dr Ma Wai-kit was invited to share his views on "How do the Internet and Social Media affect Youth in Social Actions" on August 3. He talked about the interaction of traditional media and network media, as well as the use of social media by youths.

On a separate KM session of REAP series on August 5, an Honorary Research Fellow of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention, University of Hong Kong, Dr Wong Wai-ching, and Commanding Officer of the Police Negotiation Cadre Dr Wong Kwong-hing outlined a collaborative research on "Understanding Aborted Suicide Attempts: A Mixed-Methods Approach" to enrich frontline officers' knowledge in dealing with suicide attempters. Dr Wong Wai-ching concluded that the key to stop suicidal attempts was the support of these persons' significant others.
